We no longer are getting free cable (I think I might have inadvertently messed up the wire while moving the TV, or the cable company finally turned it off. One of the two haha). Now we get about 3 channels. The weird thing is that the channel I have on now, all the ads are muted. The sound comes back on when the show starts again.... so weird.

you could be the next designer on project runway!

Free sewing machine!
Someone at the dance studio gave me a sewing machine last week. She was so excited to give it to me, that I just couldn't say no. The thing is I have my mom's extremely old metal pink one (that I think is super neat). Anyone have a need for a free sewing machine? it's hanging out in my trunk for now; I haven't opened it up or anything, so I don't even know what brand it is etc (but if you really want to know, I'll get that info to you). Here's your chance to learn how to sew and become the next big thing in the fashion world! (or you could just make yourself some nifty pillows. either way, it's win win.)

What a gorgeous day!! We are all packed up and ready for our 6K this sunday (for anyone who is interested: it's a 6K run/walk starting at the BMI and going through the Locust Point area). I'm excited that we should have great weather... that means we'll probably get a good number of walk-up registrations. It'll be an early morning, but I pretty much will just be taking pictures after we get everything set up.

bright and shiny teeth!

My sister is currently looking for a patient to perform her final dental hygiene boards on at University of MD, Baltimore. Anyone know someone who would like to get a free teeth cleaning (must have not been cleaned for a year or more), and who is a student/retired or otherwise has 2 half days of time they'd be willing to give up for a nice bright smile. It may not take that long, but it's her final test so they have to allot a certain amount of time. It seems weird to me that she has to find her own patient, but if she doesn't find someone she fails, so I figured I could ask around! I'm sure she'd be willing to hook her patient up with a nice supply of toothpaste/tooth brushes/whitening strips etc to show her gratitude.

If you know of anyone who would be interested, drop me a line.

i went to my parents place in frederick for the 3rd week in a row. this time to use their sewing machine to make some adjustments to my halloween costume and to make some pillows for my newly arranged/decorated living room. the costume part turned out decently, however, i did a terrible job on the pillows (as i had no patience to measure/cut straight/pin and proceeded to wing it). the outcome was two sad lumpy lopsided blobs. haha. i'm too tired to care right now.

despite the rain and the fact that someone side swiped me and knocked one of the side mirrors off my car, i had a fabulous birthday on friday. we ended up at the barking dog in bethesda and danced the night away. more people than i had expected were able to come which made it all the more fun. yay for fun people :)

today in my typography class, we got our papers back sans grades. looks like i have my work cut out for me. although it was a good class - the teacher was happy with where everyone was with designing our typefaces, and gave the go ahead to start drawing them on the computer. however i have some catch up work now that i've decided which design to pursue.

my presentation went really well today. :) yay! our teacher sat us down and told us we did a "really good job" and that he was really happy with how everything went. This is very nice to hear from him, cause he doesn't just say things like that. We have some engineering students who are really interested in our project and who are willing to collaborate with us. This will be very interesting. We might have a marketable product by the end of the semester. wow.

Tonight I got to take a nice long walk with my girl. That made me very happy.

Tomorrow night I'm going out dancing for my bday! I'm very excited about that, I haven't gone out in awhile.

I have an hour and a half to figure out my presentation. I just finished dance... i'm wiped out (the "easy teacher" killed us today). It's only the "dry run" for the presentation, so I'm not worried. I'll think of something to say. Although I do hope it goes well... b/c I really don't want to work on it anymore after this class. Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day at work, and I certainly don't want to be worried about the presentation I have to give tomorrow afternoon. Plus, I need to get to work on typography homework tonight (I think I say this every post) b/c it's going to be a busy weekend. ok, back to work

the agenda for today:
1. figure out where exactly our group presentation is going for conceptual design (we are presenting our concepts to the engineering class to try and get them to build prototypes for us) and divide up the additional research that needs to be done, as well as combine the different presentations i have created into one thoroughly impressive 15 min presentation (oh yeah, and figure out what i'm doing with this video!)

2. go to the store to get some sort of stencil so i can draw circles for my type design, freehand is just not cutting it at this stage :) i also need to either get some ink for my printer, or buy a new one.

3. sketch, sketch, sketch!! i need to have some awesome (well thought out) type designs for tomorrow morning's class. i'm actually excited about this. i'm going to explore 3 different design concepts, so that we can choose the strongest during critique tomorrow.

hmmmm... doesn't sound so bad, should be a fairly good day

it seems like there is a lot of sadness/frustration going around. at the end of my dance class today, one of the girls randomly burst into tears. it was like looking into a mirror... all i could do was give her a shoulder to cry on. it sucks feeling this way. and while i'm feeling a lot better than i was last night, it's even harder to see someone else go through it. it's completely random too. one minute i'd be fine, the next the world was crashing in on me. anyways, enough of that. I decided to take the advice of my bestest friends, and not try and take practicum. so i stuck to my original decision. however, i did not come to this conclusion until about 5:30 this morning when i found that all my "computer sketches" were gone. yeah, it was my fault, i totally forgot to save, and just left them on screen - but my computer turned off and had them as an early morning snack. i guess i took that as a sign. haha. so now i have some extra time to do things for myself - like get my resume together, look for jobs, maybe put some extra hours in at work when things get crazy at the end of this month... and then the best part - SLEEP! thank god for friends who think rationally when i cannot.

now i need to go make some food, then maybe start some tighter sketches for my typeface, then hopefully find something to do tonight!

when i got home from a busy day at work, i was surprised at the site of oreos in the mail bin (the bin all the apts share for oversized mail). I looked longingly at them and took a peek at the bright orange ribbon wrapped carefully around the package... sure enough "j-e-s-s" was written clearly across the 4 strands of ribbon. I stared in disbelief that someone else in this small building was named jess, and that someone had gotten her oreos. so i went upstairs. then it hit me. those oreos were meant for me! some wonderful person who had read my LJ brought me oreos! (either that, i am indeed munching happily on someone else's oreos, hehe) it was too much of a coincidence for them not to be meant for me though. so i want to thank this anonymous person, although i'm convinced i know who you are. you are awesome! it really made my day. :)

this evening the girls came over for a bit. i love them. friends are wonderful when you are trying to make hard decisions, and while i'm not certain of the decision i am going to make, i feel a lot better about it.
